Mission Accomplished
Record-breaking success for Mercy Ships Cargo Day 2023!
Your participation is changing lives across Africa.
Thank you for your amazing support.

Mercy Ships’ new hospital vessel is undergoing final outfitting in the Port of Antwerp.

The 37,000-gt Global Mercy was welcomed at the Belgium port after sailing from China, where it was built.

Dozens of companies from the port are assisting in the installation of equipment, including medical and IT systems. The work will take around six months.

The Port of Antwerp has partnered Mercy Ships since 2015, including an annual fundraising dinner.

Global Mercy is being moored free of charge while work is completed. Pilotage and customs charges are also being waived.

Bert van Dijk, president of Mercy Ships Belgium, explained that the original plan was to complete the ship’s outfitting in the Philippines but this was prevented by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Global Mercy will make a two-week stop in Rotterdam next March before sailing to Senegal, Dakar to begin its first field service.
