Premier shipping industry event Posidonia in Greece has chosen Mercy Ships as one of its “Supported Charities.”
Tens of thousands of people from over 90 countries gather for the landmark event, with the Athens Metropolitan Expo staging the exhibition between June 6 and 10.
But in the days prior to that there are various social events including a yacht race and golf and soccer tournaments.
Posidonia sees the big names in shipping heading for Athens and it is significant that the work of Mercy Ships in providing free surgical and medical care for some of the most impoverished people in Africa has been recognised. Posidonia Exhibitions SA, organisers of Posidonia 2022, have only just announced the tie-up with Mercy Ships which operates the 16,572 Africa Mercy hospital ship and next year commissions the newly-built, 37,000-gt Global Mercy built in China.
Terms of the agreement with Posidonia Exhibitions include posts on social media promoting Mercy Ships’ Cargo Day and advertising on the Posidonia website highlighting the event.
Cargo Day is staged annually, during which the global shipping and trading community raises funds for Mercy Ships. Since 2016 almost $4 million has been donated, with Cargo Day 2021 taking place in a few days on Wednesday November 10.
Mercy Ships wishes to thank especially Theodore Vokos, Project Director of Posidonia Exhibitions for the cooperation.
