Join us in making this year’s fund-raiser a mission to remember
From November 4 the shipping and trading community will join together once again to raise vital funds for Mercy Ships’ operations in Africa.
So be part of this great journey which has seen Cargo Day raise around $3 million since it was launched in 2016, including a record $1.3m in 2019.
The Covid-19 pandemic has posed massive challenges for all industries, including shipping, but it has also focused attention on the need for society globally to care for the most vulnerable.
And that is exactly what Mercy Ships is achieving in Africa with its hospital vessel Africa Mercy.
Cargo Day this year will follow the now established format whereby charterers, brokers and owners contribute so-called Mercy Cargoes, donate commissions and pledge donations.
More than 80 companies participated in last year’s Cargo Day, with their achievements recognised in a series of awards.
Unfortunately, Covid-19 means the Cargo Day 2020 Ball in Geneva has had to be cancelled and instead trophies have already been dispatched to the various category winners:
Best Charterer 2019: Eiger Shipping
Best Broker 2019: Barry Rogliano Salles
Highest Donation 2019: Eastern Pacific Shipping
Committee Honory Prize 2019: ST Shipping
Videos of the trophies being presented were produced in cooperation with the respective companies (more videos to come: Litasco for best Charterer 2019 and St Shipping for Committee honorary Prize).
“Cargo Day—an initiative where the impact of your contributions and support truly does change lives and affects positively generations. It is such a brilliant and easy way to help so many.”
JR Gardner, General Manager, Head of Crude and Fuel USA, Stena Bulk Houston Cargo Day Committee
“In any family there are tensions and disputes but in shipping there is friendship, if not brotherhood. We all depend on other people in the long chain of traders, charterers, brokers, officers, crew, agents and others. Everyone must work together and this is applies also to our support of Mercy Ships.”
Gilles Rolland, Managing Director, Nyala Shipping
Geneva Cargo Day Committee
“Mercy Ships is part of the maritime community, and as such, we should give Cargo Day our full support.
